The last few weeks has seen some strange weather here in Sauze d’Oulx, actually that isn’t true. The days of constantly cold winters starting in December and ending in February are, in my opinion, long gone. These days it’s normal for the weather to see saw between baltic and tropical. It plays havoc with the wardrobe. Mornings are bad enough without having to worry about what to wear.

Last week it was the turn of the warm winds to command the weather patterns over Sauze. This in itself could be tolerated if it wasn’t for the fact that precipitation was added to the mix. The one sight that strikes fear into those that like their winter sports is rain. With temperatures as they were it was inevitable that we had rain. It wasn’t all bad because thankfully higher up in Sportinia and above the snow gods were smiling, still it’s all a little depressing to see rain in a ski resort.

This week has started off with temperatures around the normal for this time of year. Yesterday we did have strong winds that not only added to the wind chill factor but had the more serious consequence of closing the links to Sestriere and beyond. It was the first day on the mountain for most people and it was a shame that they couldn’t explore further afield.

It did provide though the perfect opportunity for people to get to know the slopes around Sauze which despite last weeks weather were in excellent shape. A little hard in places but overall the slopes skied well. As I was having my end of the day beer at bar Clotes I reflected on a most enjoyable day despite our confinement.

Today the wind has eased and we’re not restricted to Sauze, actually I am cos I’m home writing this for you. Oh the sacrifices! I hope you appreciate it.

The forecast says that we should be getting more snow this week. It should by all accounts start tonight although looking out of the window all I can see is blue skies with the odd cloud. The weather can change quickly here though so lets keep the faith. The snow should continue through tomorrow giving us a nice top up. The temperature is set to be cold all week so no doubt the powers that be will use this opportunity to fire the cannons again.

Those that are coming out to Sauze d’Oulx in the next few days should be understandably excited as conditions are good and hopefully getting better with the snow that’s heading our way.

The title of this blog is in honour of the return of colder temperatures plus the fact that my home made chilli is ready and I’m starving. I’m not the best cook in the world so when something goes right I get very excited and I don’t mind saying that this chilli is pretty good!
