A mixed bag
We’ve had a really great start to the 2017/18 season and as the year comes to an end we have yet another weather system hitting us promising a decent amount of snow. Since doing the video snow report yesterday however the outlook has changed slightly with a warm front due to arrive sometime today (Saturday).
The snow started to fall yesterday afternoon and as I type this (09:45 Saturday morning) it is still snowing very nicely. The warm front is due to arrive around lunch time bringing with it not only humid air but also high winds. This humid air will push the freezing level up to around 2000mts or above which could result in rain falling in the village.
It’s not all bad news though as there is another cold front already heading towards the alps and is due to be over the area by the end of Sunday. The outlook for the start of the new year is a bit mixed as cold fronts are followed by warm fronts in quick succession.
Currently in the forecast we have snow on the 1st and 2nd January before the temperatures increase on the 3rd which could see wet snow/rain in the village only for the temperature to drop again on the 4th resulting in snow.
The long term forecast is for continued unsettled weather into the second week of January. At the moment the forecast is showing cold temperatures so hopefully that’ll be the case and we’ll get more snow, fingers crossed.
I’ll keep you updated as always every Friday with the video snow report direct from the slopes so stay tuned.
