Super Green Pass, what is it?

Updated 5th December, 2021.

In an effort to keep COVID infection rates low, Italy has recently announced the introduction of the Super Green Pass effective from the 6th December.

The Super Green Pass shows that you have both vaccination jabs* or you have recovered from COVID within 6 months. A negative test alone is not sufficient for this new level. Previously there was simply the Green Pass which you obtained by way of vaccination or a negative test.

This effectively means that unless you are fully vaccinated, or you can show that you have recovered from the virus, you will not be allowed to enter bars, restaurants & clubs amongst other indoor facilities. It applies to everyone over the age of 12.

From Monday 6th December, places that previously did not require any kind of certification will be added to the list of venues that require the basic Green Pass. This list will include hotels and local public transport, which presumably will mean you can ride the ski bus in Sauze if you have at least a negative test.

What does this mean if you’re travelling from the UK? As an adult you had to have proof of full vaccination, or recovery from COVID, plus a negative test to avoid quarantining for 5 days so the new announcement won’t really change anything for you.

If you’re travelling with a child aged 12 – 18yrs, then they too will need both jabs, or proof of recovery, to obtain the freedom that the Super Green Pass gives. As the UK government decided not to give children both jabs this could have an impact on family holidays.

Access to Hotels only requires the Green Pass which a negative test will give you. If the hotel has a public bar though you will need to show proof of vaccination to gain access.

Will a family be allowed to ski? The simple answer is yes. You will be able to book hotels, buy ski passes & ride all chairlifts. As most children will only have the Green Pass you won’t be able to book a table at a restaurant or go to a bar for drinks as a family. To maintain their Green Pass status, you will need to get your children tested every 48hrs.

Of course, if they receive their 2nd jab prior to travelling then they will automatically have their Super Green Pass.

Where can I get tests from? The chemist in Sauze will do quick turn around tests for €15. A negative result = Green Pass.

Do I need a test myself if I’m fully vaccinated? As of 7th December the U.K. government are insisting that returning travellers need a negative lateral flow or PCR test taken no more than 48hrs before departure. This is the only test you’ll require whilst in Sauze. The government say this is temporary so expect a change to this position hopefully in the near future.

Masks are compulsory in all public closed places in Italy so make sure to pack your masks. This will include the gondolas.

This new decree will start on the 6th December and last until at least the 15th January when things will be reviewed again.

* Your vaccination must be one that is recognised by the European Union. These are BioNTech and Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca and Janssen Pharmaceutica NV.

Returning to the UK from Italy if you are fully vaccinated.

You must take either a lateral flow test or a full PCR test within 48hrs of boarding your flight back to the U.K. This can be administered at the Pharmacy in Sauze. Alternatively you can bring a self administered Fit to Fly test with you from the U.K. We’ve used Testing for All in the past and found them to be very efficient in getting the certificate back to you.

Book and pay for a COVID-19 PCR test – to be taken after you arrive in England. You cannot use an NHS test for your PCR test. You must use a private test provider. This must be booked prior to returning.

complete a passenger locator form – to be completed in the 48 hours before you arrive in England. You will need to enter your COVID-19 test booking reference number on your passenger locator form.

You must quarantine until you receive a negative day 2 COVID-19 PCR test.

You can take the test any time after you arrive and before the end of day 2 at the latest. The day you arrive is day 0.

You must quarantine in your home or the place you are staying while you await your test result.

Test results
If your test result is negative, you can end your quarantine.

If your test result is positive, you must self-isolate for 10 full days. The day of the test is day 0.

If your test result is unclear, you must self-isolate for 10 full days. The day you took the test is day 0.

If your test result is unclear, you can choose to take another private test. If the result of that test is negative, you can stop self-isolating.

If your PCR test result is delayed, you must quarantine until you receive a negative test result or until day 14 after arrival, whichever is sooner.

What our customers say

Used Sauzeonline for our airport transfer and ski hire. The service they provided was excellent. Could not have been more helpful replying to many emails due to questions on travel due to Covid. The transfer service was fantastic and the hire shop very helpful. Thankyou for making our holiday special.

The transfers we booked were professional and hassle free notwithstanding our late arrival. For the return we were greeted on time with great service. The ski hire was also of excellent quality.

We are a family of 6 and James and Sinead at Sauzeonline.com were brilliant in organising skis, lessons and restaurants. Really helpful and friendly - a pleasure to deal with. We plan to come back next year using Sauzeonline for everything.

D. Bonfield

Sauzeonline provide great value ski and snowboard hire from a selection of shops in good locations throughout the town – so we were able to find shops suitable for all our group (not all of whom were staying in the same place). James was also incredibly helpful in resolving an issue one of our group had with his snowboard hire [and arranged a full refund]. We would definitely recommend Sauzeonline both in terms of excellent value and service.
